2022 Chardonnay
Say hello to the newest vintage of our pinnacle white wine, the one and only Meadowbank Chardonnay.
So, what's all the hype about? Our classic, cool-climate Chardonnay is one of the purest expressions of our vineyard and consistently receives high praise year after year.
With grapes taken from our 1987-planted Chardonnay vines, we lovingly nurture and harvest all the grapes by hand, before passing them on to our winemaker, Peter Dredge.
Pete is all about minimal intervention in the winery and simply allows our vineyard to speak for itself. He takes whole bunches of grapes and presses them straight into mostly old French oak barrels (about 10% new oak). The wine is left to mature on yeast lees for 9 months, before being bottled without fining agents.
The end result? A pristine, sleek and tantalising wine that delivers all the complex flint and lemon curd flavours you could dream of. It's got everything you would expect of a typical Tasmanian Chardonnay and will reward even further for many years to come.
What we love most about this wine, besides its absolute drinkability, is how wonderfully versatile it is. Enjoy it on its own, or pair it with cheese, chicken, seafood, pasta, roast vegetables, soup, even fried food... the options are almost endless.
2022 is a vintage to celebrate. Low grape yields, intense fruit concentration and a steady ripening period have produced something special here. The only downside... it's a small batch, single vineyard wine, so stock is highly limited. Grab some while you can!
2022 CHARDONNAY REVIEWS:
95 POINTS - "Chardonnay from the Derwent River Valley showing great length of flavour and drive. White peach, nectarine, green apple and grapefruit tones with underlying hits of nougat, crushed river stone, wildflowers, flint, dried herbs and softly spoken cashew oak. Dots of oatmeal and soft spice throughout with an enticing mineral line, excellent tension and detail finishing long and pure." - Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
95 POINTS - "Quite bony, but lots of energy here. Ripe lemon, grapefruit, some fennel and herb, a cold metal sort of thing (don’t mind me), subtle smokiness. Intense, some chicken stock and spiced oatmeal in with the chalky texture and bright acidity, sporting a finish of excellent length. Goes a little stonefruity and richer in the aftertaste. Really like this." - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
