Meadowbank’s history with Syrah (or Shiraz) dates back to our oldest vines planted in 1974, and includes growing fruit for the 2011 Jimmy Watson winning Glaetzer-Dixon Mon Pete Shiraz.
The 2018 Meadowbank Syrah is 100% whole berry, natural ferment, 12 days on skins, delestage early, pigeage late, pressed early to old French oak casks. Natural MLF matured on lees for 9 months, racked and bottled with no fining and minimal sulphur.
The wine shows deep purple colour with a clean, fragrant, black pepper spice and dark cherry aroma so typical of cool climate Syrah. Pure fruit character follows through here on the palate with soft, elegant tannin with crisp natural acid.
