2019 Nouveau Syrah Pinot
A couple of years ago we made a unique red blend for our friends at Frank Restaurant in Hobart. It was a wine that could be chilled, splashed around and enjoyed with friends over tables of meats. It flew out the door and piqued everyone's interest.
Cue the devastating Tasmanian bushfires of 2019. Such a crazy vintage for us, with Mardi's husband Alex spending most of his time battling fire-fronts out in the Tasmanian wilderness (did we mention he is a career firefighter?), while we also managed fruit growing and winemaking decisions based on a mix of intuition and science.
Perhaps the silver-lining from this experience was going all in on the Nouveau Syrah Pinot that had been so loved at Frank Restaurant. We decided against producing a single-varietal, long-cellaring Pinot Noir in 2019 due to the inherent risk of smoke taint, and instead created this Nouveau style blend, with 55% Syrah and 45% Pinot Noir juice.
Unfined, unfiltered and with minimal sulphur, there’s no need to wait. This wine is ready and raring to go.
A bright, deep purple hue, with lifted spice from the Syrah and berry fruit aromas from the Pinot Noir. This wine has a soft, fruit driven palate, with mild tannin for an easy drinking Nouveau-style red wine. Chill it down and drink it up.
